Auckland International Airport (AKL) is arguably one of New Zealand's most valuable infrastructure investments. As with any large infrastructure asset, it is imperative to keep it updated with timely repairs and upgrades.

There is no doubt that New Zealand is committed to assuring that AKL will remain as a treasured national asset. Case in point is that AKL is currently undergoing the biggest airfield expansion since it opened in 1966. This expansion includes the long-term goal of paving a second main runway and building a new domestic terminal. The expansion is deemed necessary to handle the 40 million passengers and 260,000 flights expected to use the airport yearly by 2044.

Currently Fletcher Construction Ltd. has concrete paving projects underway in anticipation of the full closure of the main runway for major repairs and the relocation of the domestic terminal. MFC is playing an important part in the Fletcher concrete paving operations by supplying 425m x 475m (16.7" x 18.7") dual paving forms (MetaPave® II). The order consisted of 2,676 meters (8,800') of order consisted of 2,676 meters (8,800') of forms fabricated from ¼" steel in 3-meter (9.85') lengths and equipped with detachable keyways. A similar order of forms was previously shipped to Fletcher for concrete pavements at the RNZAF (Royal New Zealand Air Force) Base in Auckland.

MFC is pleased to have partnered with Fletcher Construction on this international paving project. Fletcher Construction has been an integral part of the   development and modernization of the South Pacific since 1945 as they have worked with both governments and private sectors to improve the regions   transport and utility infrastructure.
